MLB Trip 2000 – 14,991 miles, 35 states, 30 games

In the summer of 2000, at the dawn of the mobile world wide web, Mike Rose and Tim Lewin set out from San Francisco in a 1976 Dodge van to see a baseball game in all 30 Major League Baseball stadiums. When they embarked on this journey they could not be sure if they would even make it out of California. But after 65 days, 14,991 miles, at least 100 hot dogs each, and a million things working out by chance, they arrived on time in Los Angeles to watch the final game with friends and family. During their travels, they uploaded pictures and stadium reviews via a wireless internet connection. This is what they left behind.

Mike and Tim, driving through Kansas. There wasn’t much else to do. I guess we figured out how the timer worked on the MLBTrip2000 team “digital camera”. |

This is Bob. We found him in Oakland and he traveled with us for the rest of the trip. Some say he set sail to the Caribbean but he hasn’t been heard from since. |

Mike making friends with the Montreal Expos mascot, Youppi. Youppi was one of our favorite mascots and brought a little light to an otherwise grim ballpark. |
|
Youppi followed us to Boston and accompanied us during a traffic jam in a Boston tunnel. We later found out that getting stuck in traffic is part of the Fenway experience. |
