Game 08 | Pirates, 0 — Cubs, 3 | July 3

“Wrigley Field is not a stadium. Wrigley Field is not a ballpark. Wrigley Field is an experience.” –Mike Rose

PRE-GAME
Upon the advice of others, we used a Park n’ Ride to take the “L” to Wrigley Field. The 30 minute ride from the suburbs dropped us half a block from the field. The sidewalks were packed, and the July 4 weekend crowd kept us from upgrading our terrace reserved to bleacher seats. But from the atmosphere, we knew exactly what to do: have fun. We went to Murphy’s, adjacent to CF, for pre-game refreshments. The scene there was unbelievable. Cubs fans streamed into the bar, which was loaded with great Cubs memorabilia. This was THE place to meet up with friends and have a few brews before the game.

GAME TIME
We migrated with the crowd over to Wrigley Field. From our seats, we saw all of Wrigley: the red brick backstop, the green outfield ivy, and the apartment roofs packed with Cubs fans. The Cubs fans were incredibly enthusiastic and well-mannered. The occasional Pirates fan caught no grief from them. The only conceivable downer were the few people there for the scene and not for the baseball.

POST-GAME
Following the advice of the display shown above, we hit the Cubby Bear after the game. There, we met the legendary Cubs fan “Woo-woo” who was decked out in a full Cubs uniform. The party continued there and at a few Reggae bars down the street. Around 7 p.m., we wrapped it up and headed for the “L”. We all got killer burritos at a place called La Mexicana next to the station.
