Game 19 | Tampa Bay, 1 — Yankees, 5 | July 23
Ballpark Summary
Yankee Stadium has been the site of baseball for the Bronx Bombers
since 1923. It underwent a remodeling in the 1970s that produced a 2-level concrete stadium without obstructed
views. The outfield seats are still real bleachers, generally for
the rowdier New Yorkers. Gaby Lewin joined the MLB Trip team for
two games in New York. In her commentary, Gaby
analyzes the details that make baseball fashionable.
Ballpark Perks
The gleaming highlight of Yankee Stadium was Monument Park beyond
the CF fence. The Park pays tribute to Yankees immortals in the
form of plaques, statues, and retired jerseys.
Getting to the ballpark was a quick subway ride
on the L into Manhattan and uptown on the No. 4 train to the Bronx.
The New York subway system worked out great for us.
Ballpark Downers
The corridors of the stadium were claustrophobic and smelled of
hot dogs, sweat, and something curiously sweet.
One jumbo dog
please, hold the Knoblauch.
