Game 23 | Astros, 4 — Marlins, 3 | August 3
Ballpark Summary
Our mission was again threatened by rain, but even thunder and lightning
was no match for the will of the MLB Trip.
Our game time of 7:05 was pushed back to 8:30 before we heard the
sacred words, “Play Ball!” Through a steady drizzle, Marlins pitcher
Chuck Smith took a no-hitter into the 6th, then gave up 4 runs before
the inning was up. In the bottom 7th, Marlin Preston Wilson slid
hard into Houston 2B Craig Biggio. Biggio went down hard but walked
off the field. We later found out Biggio had sustained a torn MCL
and ACL, and was out for the season. In the top picture, Mike and
Tim listened for news on the radio about the rain delay while eating
buffalo wings. In the picture above, Dave DeAlva tries to get us
on television. To no avail.
Ballpark Perks
Pro Player Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium. It seats 40,500 for
baseball and 73,000 for football. However, the angular design of
the stadium and some bright colors save it from “multi-purpose arena
concrete overload syndrome”. The food highlight was the hot wings,
which kept us in good spirits throughout the rain delay.
Ballpark Downers
Florida’s mascot, Billy Marlin, was weak.
