Game 15 | Astros, 6 — Tigers, 11 | July 15
Ballpark Summary
Detroit is a hole. The best part about the new stadium, Comerica
Park, is that the old Tiger Stadium was just off the freeway on
the way there. This Saturday afternoon game was sold out, and we
didn’t want to pay $15 for standing room tickets. We found that
ticket availability outside the park was virtually non-existent.
When we asked questions, people were rude and unhelpful. It seemed
like it was even a rough area for ticket scalpers.
Ballpark Perks
Statues of such Tiger greats as Ty Cobb and Wille Horton grace left
CF. But they closed the statue area just 10 minutes after the game!
We could not get a decent picture of the Ty Cobb statue. That aside,
the Italian sausage with grilled veggies was pretty good.
Ballpark Downers
Comerica Park is a case of nice new ballpark, same old problems.
Don’t see a night game here unless you and your family are armed
or can run very fast. We’re pretty sure our $10 parking fee went
straight from the attendant to a drug dealer, and we were accosted
for recyclables and cigarettes. This just in the afternoon. The
front of the stadium was pickled with gaudy gargoyle-like tigers.
And if that didn’t sour the sight, the Detroit skyline in the background
looked like a the bad part of town in a post-World War III city.
You could say we didn’t like it.
