Game 20 | Expos, 0 — Mets, 5 | July 25
Ballpark Summary
John Rocker is a wussy boy. The MLB Trip Team took the 7 train to
Shea stadium from Manhattan and it was a piece of cake. In the picture
below, from left to right: Mike, Felice, Gaby, and Tim. The picture
is terrible, yes. It is the only picture we had of the group that
attended the Shea game.
Ballpark Perks
The Mets fans at Shea were the stadium’s best asset. You could tell
that these were NY Mets fans for real. And there were 40,000+ people
for a Tuesday game versus the Expos. Mets fans were an extremely
diverse group, a stark contrast to the cookie cutter-yuppie-bandwagon
Yankee fans. In the food department, the true standout was the Grille
Hut for sausages with grilled onions and peppers. The funnel cake
was a great dessert, too.
Ballpark Downers
Shea Stadium is an aging facility. Given that, the ticket prices
were outrageous – $30 for field lower box, $26 for the upper deck
box, and $21 for the upper reserved (our seats). It seemed like
the Mets were simply keeping pace with the Yankees, not wanting
to be the bargain baseball team in town.
