Game 04 | Giants, 12 — Rockies, 7 | June 27
Ballpark Summary
Coors Field in Denver, CO, delivered exactly what it’s famous
for: Big Runs and Big Home Runs. One LF bomb hit ground zero just
4 rows in front of our seats, vantage point shown below. Unfortunately,
Coors Field dealt us our first home team loss, ending our winning
streak at 3 games.
Ballpark Perks
At a stadium capacity of 50,000+, Coors Field introduced a concept
apparently lost on other new, red brick/green steel ballparks
– affordability! Yes, even folks below the upper class mark can
actually see games in Denver, where lower bleachers run $12 and
seats in the Rockpile (upper CF bleachers) are only $4, $1
for kids and seniors!
Our LF bleacher comrades showed keen heckling
ability in their continuous harassment of Barry Bonds. The Rockies
fans were genuinely excited to see their boys score runs, and
we even got a “Welcome to Colorado” from a passerby
in the parking lot.
The last unique perk of Coors Field is the single
row of light blue seats that streaks across the upper deck at
exactly 1 mile high (5,280 ft elevation).
Ballpark Downers
The inclement weather threatened us with our first rain-out, but
gave way to clear skies just before game time. The twenty minute
walk from the remote parking lot in the light rain dampened our
spirits. And leave it to the Giants to spoil our winning streak.
Thanks, SF.
The Rockies game also marked our first promotional
gift. We were excited. A big foam hand, a pin, a pen, a seat cushion,
something. When we walked through those gates we received a nasty
burlap apron with the logo of some horse manure company and a
poor excuse for a rockies logo. Thanks Decker and Colorado.
