Game 16 | Mets, 7 — Blue Jays, 5 | July 17
Ballpark Summary
Our opinions about baseball in domes has slightly altered. The SkyDome
is in a very happening area of Toronto and was a very welcome change
after Detroit. The SkyDome offers tours of the stadium and its inner-workings.
The tour provided the MLB Trip Team with its first on-field experience.
The turf was spongier than expected and well kept. The tour also
included a 15-minute documentary on the construction of the building,
a visit to the press box, a brief romp in the luxury suites, and
the basic rules of the game of baseball (for the tourists). Oh yeah,
the SkyDome is in Canada.
Ballpark Perks
Generally speaking, Hard Rock Cafes are expensive, tacky, and at
best the food is mediocre. The Hard Rock Cafe in the SkyDome was
all of these but had an incredible view of the field.

The MLB Trip
found that this was a great place to knock down a couple of Molson
and/or Labatt’s beers while meeting other tourists and watching
batting practice. The jumbotron in the SkyDome is impressive. It
is 31 feet tall and 110 feet wide, the biggest one so far. The screen
is framed by the rooms of the Renaissance Hotel that overlook the
field. Decent seats were easy to come by and fairly inexpensive.
The SkyDome is within walking distance of many restaurants, bars,
and coffee shops. The main attraction of the SkyDome is the retractable
roof. The roof is divided into four sections that maneuver over
and around each other uncovering 90 percent of the seats.
The MLB has seen nothing like the SkyDome before or since…
The MLB Trip was lucky enough to witness this amazing retraction
during the baseball game.
