Baseball Hall of Fame and Doubleday Field | July 20

A baseball pilgrimmage

If the hit and run is the mind of baseball, and a 3-2 count with the bases loaded in the ninth is the heart of baseball, then, surely, the Hall of Fame is the soul of baseball.

Following our night game in Montreal, we bid adieu to Canada and headed south. We drove mostly all night to get to Cooperstown by mid-morning. Cooperstown is a small Americana town in central NY, hardly big enough to contain the history that it harbors.

Once inside the unassuming brick building, we were greeted by statues of Babe Ruth and Ted Williams. Behind them stood a display of Baseball’s All Century Team. At this point, to offer summaries would serve merely as an injustice to the history and memoribilia presented by the Hall. Instead, Mike and Tim present their perspectives and favorites.

Our closing image of Cooperstown was Doubleday Field (shown at above). The field is named after Abner Doubleday, widely credited as the inventor of baseball as we know it. Doubleday Field hosts the annual Hall of Fame Game on induction weekend.

The other image above was from a display about a stadium (Ebbets Field) that unfortunately, the MLBTrip2000 team just missed.
