Game 25 | Mets, 3 — Astros, 9 | August 8
Road Weary
En route to the Astros game, Tim has a strange
dream that provides insight into the long season…
Ballpark Summary
The newly minted Enron Field has, so far, the Astros playing baseball
in the currency of big-run games. Surprisingly, though, these transactions
aren’t done exclusively in HR’s….

Ballpark Perks
The distance from home plate to straight-away CF is 436 ft. An average
CF is 405, and a deep CF is 415 ft. 436 feet is a monstrous distance.
But it does create some interesting things.

We saw a 420 ft. bomb turn into a routine fly ball. We also saw
a line drive trickle its way into the CF no-man’s land and turn
into a triple. The real HR trouble comes from LF, where a 315 ft.
porch awaits fly balls. Other perks include a strikeout counter
on the scoreboard, a sports art gallery, and the railroad themes
throughout the park. (Enron Field is attached to Houston’s old Union
Station.)
Ballpark Downers
Balls leave the stadium too quickly. Tim’s pretzel was stale.
